Hey, gang! Checkin’ in this week with a new favorite Keto recipe for Chocolate Hazelnut Spread. A little back story of how this came to fruition in the Chez Milnes’ kitchen. I try realllly hard not to spend money at coffee stores, particularly expensive ones like Starbucks. It’s not that I necessarily don’t enjoy frequenting these establishments. It’s really more about the concerted effort I’ve been making to not spend extra cash on impulsive purchases– both big and small. Unfortunately however, last month I caught myself on more than a few occasions heading into this coffee stop, and not for coffee!
Y’all… you’re probably not even going to know what this is because it’s like the most invisible item in the store. But when you’re looking at that small refrigerated section in good ol’ Starbucks, if you peek closely, you might see they carry these individual size packet of chocolate hazelnut spread. I’m not even going to tell you the brand name because it’s not important. And my recipe is healthier anyways.

Which brings to me to the next problem-o I was having. Despite these little packets containing the word “Organic” on the front, a few of the ingredients are suspect to me. For example, Palm Oil. This oil tends to be very unstable at high temperatures, and has even been linked to cancer. Additionally, supporting the supply and demand for Palm Oil contributes to the vast issue of deforestation in the countries where it’s produced.
Also, way too much sugar was involved in this prepackaged chocolate hazelnut spread. Even a fairly small amount of sugar for me brings on a myriad of physical concerns– more sweet cravings, energy crashes, moodiness, and other more unsavory responses. Okay, I’ll stop blabbing and give ya the goods. This recipe is so stinkin’ easy and takes less than 10 minutes. The biggest caveat is that you need to own a solid blender. The Vitamix (available here) is great and certainly a luxury top line product. For those that want something formidable but also want to save some moolah, I suggest the Ninja Blender.
Here’s what you’ll need. To purchase any of the ingredients, simply click on the highlighted portion.
Blend your hazelnuts into a fine powder. Because it’s not a large quantity, I use the single cup size attachment for my blender (the Ninja). Then add your Brain Octane Oil and continue blending until smooth. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend some more. That’s it!
It’s seriously just that easy, y’all!
I store mine in the fridge, which does thicken the consistency a bit. If you like it thinner, more like a sauce, leave at room temperature. I enjoy mine on a spoon (no shame in this game), but would also be great on top of a few strawberries or raspberries.
To eating healthy treats by the spoonful and creating a life in color,
p.s. Because I always want to give credit where credit is due, original recipe is by alldayIdreamaboutfood.com : )
